Rebranding & Website design

Jan 02, 2024

Jan 02, 2024

Travel Animator is a mobile app that transforms journeys into animated videos using 300+ 3D vehicle models and 30+ map styles. The app had achieved strong product-market fit with compelling features but faced a critical problem: the brand and website failed to communicate what made it special.

I led a complete brand and web redesign to align the visual identity with the app's playful, 3D-forward nature — positioning it for international growth.

Result:
App reached 1M+ downloads across 150+ countries, 4.6★ rating on post-launch and was featured as #2 of the day & #5 of the week app on Product Hunt (January 29, 2026).

THE PROBLEM

Before: Feature-Rich, Brand-Poor

The existing brand was cluttered and static:

  • Logo: Overly complex, lacked personality

  • Typography: Stiff and corporate; no visual hierarchy

  • Website: Template-like structure that didn't showcase the app's 3D maps, vehicle models, or animation capabilities

  • Market Gap: Competitors like TravelBoast were capturing mindshare with stronger visual identities

The disconnect was stark: a 1M+ user app with world-class 3D features buried under weak branding that didn't reflect what users loved about the product.

RESEARCH & STRATEGY

The Opportunity

The team was preparing for international expansion and had clear growth ambitions. The brand and web presence needed to match the product's energy and showcase its differentiators.

THE SOLUTION

Brand Direction: Playful & 3D-Forward

I repositioned Travel Animator as a playful, 3D-driven experience—moving away from corporate minimalism toward a visual language that celebrated the app's fun, immersive nature. I've got the Most Ideas from "Clash of clans" the game. I was a fan of the game.

Logo Evolution

  • Simplified the mark while increasing visual clarity

  • Introduced warmth and playfulness — befitting a travel storytelling tool

  • Maintained simplicity for scalability across platforms

Visual System

  • Introduced 3D illustrations and dynamic elements reflecting the app's 3D maps and vehicle models

  • Playful color palette that felt energetic without losing professionalism

  • Illustration-forward approach to break away from stock photography (traveling to drawing-based storytelling)

Website Redesign: From Template to Purpose-Built

I redesigned the website from scratch—not a template refresh—to tell the brand story and drive app downloads.

Key Changes:

  1. Hero Section: Immediately communicates value through animated examples and 3D visuals

  2. Feature Showcase: Hero earth animation + vehicle carousel highlighting the 300+ model library

  3. Social Proof: Real user animations embedded directly (showing results, not just testimonials)

  4. Creator Challenge: Call-to-action section promoting the contest mechanic

  5. Resource Hub: Tutorial library positioning the brand as educator, not just tool provider

  6. CTAs: Prominent app store links (iOS/Android) and direct links to contest signup

Technical Approach:

  • Mobile-first responsive design (67% of traffic is mobile)

  • Fast-loading animations and 3D previews without compromising performance

  • SEO-optimized structure capturing both branded and non-branded search traffic

Contest Mechanic: Growth Lever

After the website launch, I designed a Creator Challenge with prize pools up to $1000 to drive engagement and user-generated content.

Purpose:

  • Lower friction for entry (visual storytelling appeal to creators)

  • Encourage high-quality content creation (prize incentive)

  • Drive social sharing and word-of-mouth

  • Capture organic trending from contest submissions

Outcomes & Data Milestone: 1M+ Downloads

The app crossed 1M downloads shortly after the website went live (mid-2025), achieving the team's primary growth target.

Search Performance

Branded vs. Non-Branded Search (May 2026)

  • Branded: 64% — strong direct brand awareness

  • Non-Branded: 36% — capturing generic 'travel map animation' search volume

  • Organic search: 56.53% of total website traffic

Top Organic Search Terms:

  • 'travel map animation' — 13.49% traffic share (+750% growth)

  • 'animated map route' — 10.32% traffic share

  • These non-branded terms capture users before they know Travel Animator exists

Traffic Sources (Mar-May 2026)

  • Organic Search: 56.53%

  • Direct: 27.54%

  • Organic Social: 11.36%

  • Other: 4.57% (referrals, email, paid)

JOURNALING + AI-SUGGESTED MEALS

  • Monthly Unique Visitors: 11,872

  • Deduplicated Audience: 10,471

  • Pages per Visit: 2.14 (multi-page engagement; users exploring beyond entry point)

Product Hunt Recognition

January 29, 2026:

  • #2 ranked app on Product Hunt

  • #5 ranked in the week of January 29

This validation from the maker community reinforced the rebrand's alignment with creator and developer audiences.

Design Principles

1. Reflect Product Reality

The brand needed to mirror what users experienced: 3D, playful, immersive. No gap between promise and delivery.

2. Play with 3D (Literally)

The app's core feature is 3D maps and models. The brand couldn't be flat. Illustrations, dynamic elements, and depth became visual signatures.

3. Simplicity at Scale

The logo had to work at app icon size (180x180px) and website hero (full width). Evolution, not revolution.

4. Design for Conversion

Every page served a purpose: hero communicates value, features showcase depth, social proof builds trust, CTAs drive downloads.

5. International-First Mindset

Playfulness and illustration transcend language. Non-English SEO terms performing strongly (Russian, Italian) validated this approach.

What I Delivered

  • Logo Evolution — Simplified, playful, scalable

  • Brand Visual System — Illustration direction, color, typography, 3D integration

  • Website Redesign (ground-up) — Hero, feature showcase, social proof, hub, CTAs

  • Contest Landing Page — Signup flow, rules, gallery, mechanics

  • Brand Guidelines — Logo usage, typography scale, illustration style, dos/don'ts

Key Takeaway

A great product can be invisible without great brand communication. Travel Animator proved that aligning visual identity with product reality—and backing it with a purpose-built website—can accelerate growth and unlock international markets. The rebrand wasn't about decoration; it was about removing the friction between what the app does and what people thought it did.

The 1M downloads milestone wasn't luck. It was clarity.
